LENEXA (Kan.) – Smith & Loveless President Frank J. Rebori announced today the establishment of a new program fund that will benefit University of Kansas (KU) STEM students. The fund creation, through the KU Endowment Association, represents a five-year commitment by the company to support KU’s School of Engineering “Engineering Practice Exam” program, which aims to enhance undergraduate STEM performance and peer mentoring. The program commitment furthers a fruitful relationship between the School and Smith & Loveless that spans nearly 60 years.
“Smith & Loveless has a rich history of collaborating with the University of Kansas School of Engineering in developing environmental solutions that have advanced the water industry,” Rebori said.
The program, which allows freshman-sophomore students to practice taking tests and receive invaluable peer feedback from upperclassmen representing School of Engineering student groups and honor societies, has shown to help improve STEM-related test scores by 12-15 percent. Smith & Loveless sees its involvement as helping these young students not only enhance their skills but open their eyes to the rewards of engineering careers in the water industry after graduation.
